April 2025
Dear Parents of Year 11
Thank you for all your support over the many years your child has been with us. They have certainly developed from children into wonderful young people. They have been working hard to meet their goals this year and it is crucial that everything they do from this point supports this end goal. I wanted to write to you to share the key messages that have been shared with them in a letter I have written and information that has been provided on Google classroom.
Support over the exam weeks:
The formal sit down exams start on Tuesday 6 May (not forgetting the speaking exams in the weeks prior). During this time they will have a timetable specific to the courses they are taking which is a mixture of their current timetable and masterclasses on the run up to each exam. It is important that they attend all sessions over this time so they can access the full support offered, as every minute counts. It is vital that they are present for every exam. If they are unwell for any reason we would recommend they attend and we can apply for special considerations for that day. If they are unable to attend due to illness they will need a medical note to support this absence for us to apply for special considerations in these circumstances.
Arrival to site:
All students must arrive on site for 8:15 am so the exam briefing can begin on time. Students will have the offer of support sessions in the Brasserie and in classrooms. The timings of these sessions are dependent on the exams, but at a minimum they will be at 8 am.
Uniform:
All students must attend site in the correct uniform. If they are not in the correct uniform they will need to borrow this from SID. We want to focus on correct procedures and a calm and purposeful atmosphere before the exams and having the correct uniform when they arrive on site helps with this habit. Nothing can be written or drawn on their person as this is an infringement of the JCQ rules.
Week commencing Monday 16 June:
On 16 June they will attend in the morning for the Physics exam. Following all students completing the exam they will be invited into the Bistro for our final assembly and our usual photo highlights. We will then go out to the field to complete shirt signing. They can leave the site at 12:30 pm, or stay for the last lunch sitting if you wish, but they would need to return to normal uniform.
From this point on they will be working from a personalised timetable based on the exams they have left. They must attend all the registered sessions. From this point on they will need to sign in and out at reception when they arrive and leave.
Prom Party:
The Prom committee have agreed Thursday 26 June for the event in school to celebrate Year 11 and their achievements. The event will be from 6 pm - 10 pm for those invited. Specifics and dress code to follow.
They can pay a deposit of £10 NOW (the price may vary depending on numbers and requirements, but it will be no more than £15 in total), they must keep their Prom Passport up to date to attend, this does include virtual and online sessions attended.
Friday 27 June, is the official leaving date. From this point on they will be offered a virtual learning platform. These sessions look at preparing for Post 16 learning including masterclass introduction lessons to Level 3 (e.g. A-Level) courses, an ‘independence’ curriculum and a continuation of our careers programme including meetings with advisors where required.
GCSE results day is Thursday 21 August. This will be when they will receive their statement of results. Further information will follow regarding this day and for the collection of the actual certificates in the Autumn Term. It is very important that they collect these certificates as they will need these as evidence for future courses and careers. If they are unable to collect their results they must let us know in advance via
enquiries@cityfields.outwood.com and the person collecting the results must bring a letter from them identifying who they are and that they are giving permission for them to collect on their behalf. This information belongs to them and only them.
Special request - Please bring any uniform that will not go to younger siblings so we can recycle this for others in the community. We would also like any revision books or resources they have to support others if they have finished with them. Anything is greatly appreciated.
On behalf of all the staff in the academy, thank you for working with us, we wish them all the success in the world.
Yours faithfully
Michelle Colledge-Smith
