Subject: Update regarding the National SEND Reform Announcements
Dear Parents and Carers
You may have seen recent reports in the national news regarding the government’s proposed reforms to the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) system in the UK.
I am writing to you today not to discuss the merits of these changes, but to provide clarity on what they mean for our school community and, your child. I want to ensure you have the facts as they stand today.
The Context: A Long-term Roadmap
The reforms announced are part of a long-term framework rather than an immediate change in law. The government has indicated a phased implementation approach for completion in the 2028-29 academic year.
The policy is not yet active, and the legal framework that protects your child’s rights today remains fully in place.
Our Commitment: Stability and Support
I want to reassure you that for the immediate future, it is "business as usual" at City Fields.
-
Current Provision: There are no immediate changes to existing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or SEN Support (K-code) arrangements as a result of this announcement.
-
“Students First": Our school’s dedication to your child’s development is not tied to a specific policy cycle. Our commitment to you is unwavering: we will continue to support you and your child to the very best of our ability.
Moving Forward Together
The SEND landscape can be complex to navigate, but you do not have to do it alone. We view our relationship with our families as a partnership; we will work through these national changes together, ensuring that our local provision remains a stable, supportive environment for every pupil.
We will keep you informed of any concrete developments as they arise in the coming years. We have an event Tuesday 10 February if you wish to discuss your child or these developments any further.
Thank you for your continued trust and for being such a vital part of our school community.
Warm regards
Michelle Colledge-Smith
Principal
