Dear Students and Families

Thank you for your support with the approach we are taking called, "The City Fields Way,".  We are focusing on developing students' key skills of organisation and independence and the impact that this has on their learning.

Organisation - Good organisation reduces stress and makes people more productive.
Independence - Boosts confidence and self-esteem, empowering individuals to believe in their abilities and manage daily tasks without constant assistance, which improves self-worth and creates a positive outlook.  This in turn aids in problem-solving and adaptability which are significant skills in the changing landscape of employment.

There has been a significant improvement in students bringing equipment to school.  By reinforcing this habit students are quickly prepared to begin learning and engage in the lesson.
Reminder:
Every student must carry a school bag containing their planner and a pencil case equipped with a ruler, pencil, black pen, and red pen.  If students do not have these items they can be collected from the following areas before PDG (8:20 am):
  • Staff on gate duty
  • Student Information Desk - SID
  • Inclusion - SEND Students
All students need to have this equipment with them before they enter PDG.  For those who fail to do this PDG mentors will step in to provide those students with the correct equipment and issue them with a detention.  Students will need to return the equipment to their mentors before they leave the school site.

Reducing lost learning time
Taking responsibility starts with being on time. Students are expected on site by 8:15 am, they are classed as late at 8:20 am as this is when students move to their PDG.  At 8:25 am students are expected to be engaged in learning activities and will receive a detention if not on site by this time.  If a student arrives after 8:55 am the morning registration period, a U code will be issued, this means presence at school is acknowledged but it will not contribute to the attendance percentage. Where absences become a concern, support will be offered however continued absence could lead to a fine. Missing learning directly affects life chances, including employability prospects and future earnings; it is essential to be in all lessons, on time, every time.

Uniform
We take pride in our appearance as it represents our academy. Please remember:
  • Shoes: Black school shoes only - no trainers
  • Socks: Black (no trainer socks)
  • Outerwear: Blazers must be worn; no hoodies are allowed on site. Additional outdoor coats can be worn, but hoodies (jersey style tops with or without zips do not keep students warm and dry) are not permitted.
  • General: Shirts must be tucked in, ties on with top button fastened, and no jewellery is permitted (confiscated if seen).
If anyone needs help and support with Uniform please contact enquiries where someone will call you back.  As a school we can support uniform in a number of different ways so don’t be anxious to reach out.

Planners are essential for organisation.
They must be ready for inspection at the gate and placed on the desk every lesson. Please note that arriving without a planner results in a detention, and defaced planners must be replaced at a cost of £4.These should be purchased through their ipay account.

Social times
We want our students to enjoy their social times, but have high expectations that they do so in a calm and safe manner. Social times should be used for:
  • Speaking with friends about topical issues
  • Catching up with Learning Managers/Teachers about anything students need help with
  • Relaxing in a calm and mature manner
The VAST majority of our students get this right, but a small minority need to improve their efforts. We will continue to raise standards and hold high expectations around this moving forward.

We are committed to "Students First" and continually raising standards across the academy. By following these routines, we can all take pride in everything we do.

Best regards

The Leadership Team Outwood Academy City Fields
