Subject: Religious Studies
Dear Year 9 Parents/Carers
Following the agreed changes we are now looking at some choices you will need to make which will impact your student’s time in school. All students in Year 9 have been studying the GCSE pathway for Religious Studies (Eduqas) and they are half way through the course. With the changes to the curriculum all of the Personal Development and Religious Studies input has moved to Session One of the day, this means that Session One teachers will be delivering this input. However, to study GCSE will require input from a Specialist who has had training at teaching the rigours of the subject and the skills associated with this, and this cannot be done with your Session One teachers. If your student would like to complete their GCSE Religious Studies we are able to offer a group to them, this will require them to have two Enhancement sessions per week which focus on the GCSE and one after school session.
Religious Studies offers a wide range of benefits, both personal and professional. Here's a breakdown of why it remains a valuable field of study:
Deepens Understanding of Society and Culture
Development of Highly Transferable Skills
Wide Range of Career Opportunities
Addressing Fundamental Questions
Continuing to study Religious Studies equips individuals with intellectual tools, cultural understanding, and practical skills that are increasingly vital in navigating a complex, diverse, and interconnected world.
Next Steps:
We encourage you to discuss this option thoroughly with your child. If you wish to make contact with their Religious Studies teacher or another specialist, please find their email addresses below:
