Subject: Supporting Caiden North and Family
Dear Year 8 Parents and Carers
I am writing to you today to share the news that Caiden has been diagnosed with a brain tumour which is called Medulloblastoma. This is a very challenging diagnosis and the family are aware this will take a great deal of support from the medical community, the journey ahead will be challenging and long.
With permission from the family we have spoken to Year 8 about this today and we will keep them updated. His friends have joined us in thinking about how they want to contact him and share positive messages. It has been heartening to see their compassion and thoughtfulness about their friend. They have lots of questions which we will take away and talk to his parents about, so that they can decide what they feel is appropriate to share at this challenging time.
We have advised any students who want to talk to us, or are affected by this, to seek out an adult in school they trust so we can support them.
On behalf of the entire staff and school community, I want to extend our empathy and unwavering support to Caiden's family during this incredibly difficult time.
Yours faithfully
Shelly Colledge-Smith
