Dear Parent/Carer,
As Year 10 students enter their final year of GCSE study, we want to emphasise that strong attendance is vital for academic and personal success. With less than 12 months until examinations begin, every day in school counts toward their future.
Why Attendance Matters
-
Academic Progress: Students with 95% attendance or higher make significantly better progress and often earn more in their future careers. (Link to Research)
-
Higher Grades: Students with 100% attendance are nearly twice as likely to achieve a Grade 5 in English and maths compared to those with 90–95% attendance. (Link to Research)
-
Personal Growth: Being in school builds confidence, communication skills, and professional development.
-
Impact of a day off: 90% attendance means missing one day every 2 weeks, and equates to 95 hours of lost learning each academic year, which is difficult to catch up on
How You Can Help
-
Resilience: We encourage students to attend despite minor illnesses (e.g., headaches) to build future resilience.
-
Scheduling: Please book medical appointments outside of school hours whenever possible; we know this can be difficult, but reducing time out of school will improve outcomes for your child.
-
Support: If there are any barriers to your child attending school, please contact us so we can work together to overcome them.
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring your child achieves their best possible outcomes.
Kind regards,
Greg Wadsworth Vice Principal – Deep Support
